About the Recipe
Dutch Oven French Toast Bake is a great breakfast idea when feeding a crowd. Toasty edges and tender on the inside, it’s everything you love about French toast

Ingredients
12 slices thick bread
5 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cinnamon
1 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/3 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
1 – 1 1/2 cup blueberries, strawberries, bananas or any other sliced fruit of your choosing
Preparation
Step 1
Start your coals. Cut out a circular piece of parchment paper to serve as a liner inside a 12" Dutch oven.
Tear the bread into rustic pieces (roughly 2 inches square) and place in the Dutch oven on top of the parchment paper.
Step 2
In a large bowl, thoroughly mix the eggs, then stir in salt, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Once those ingredients are fully incorporated, stir in the cream/milk.
Step 3
Now slowly drizzle the mixture over the bread. Use a wooden spoon or rubber spatula to lightly toss the bread until each piece is evenly coated. Sprinkle the fruit on top and mix gently.
Step 4
Cover the Dutch oven and set it over evenly spaced briquets, then add 16 briquets to the top on the lid of the dutch oven, giving a cooking temperature of about 350 degrees in a 12" oven. (for a 12" deep dish oven use 28 briquets, 9 under and 19 on top .)
Bake for about 30 minutes. Serve with butter and maple syrup.
